Kim Malchuk

Treasurer & Summer Programmer

Kim is returning to the A-Spire Theatre with a renewed sense of  enthusiasm and energy. Her entrance into the theatre world began when she was surprisingly approached by a gentleman at a local public fundraising event whose opening line was “Have you ever been on stage?” After she stopped laughing, he explained that he was directing a local play at the A-Spire and was looking for cast members. Always willing to try something new, she went to the auditions and later starred in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. The “acting bug" took hold and her performances that followed were Suppressed Desires, Chance Encounters, The Christmas Variety Show, and 37 Postcards. Kim, along with the other board members, are committed to keeping the arts alive and well in the historical Unitarian Church of Gimli that the A-Spire Theatre is lucky to call home.

Leah Young Martin

Secretary

Leah is new to community theatre and relatively new to Gimli having moved here just over 4 years ago in the midst of COVID. Prior to living in Gimli, she lived in Lynn Lake Manitoba, Uranium City, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. She is a retired social worker and has spent innumerable hours role-playing and training new social workers for success in the field. She joined A-Spire last year, loving every minute of learning to be a stage manager while also making good friends. She appreciated the patience and care that fellow members showed to her as she entered the world of stage management. She has a background in music and deep love of both musicals and stage productions. This appreciation piqued her interest in joining the world of the A-Spire Players. She is dedicated to working with the Board to “make all our productions solid gold!”

Jeffrey Freedman

Member - At - Large

Jeffrey is a fixer. Which makes sense because he’s also a doctor. But, he doesn’t just fix people, he can fix just about anything, which is probably why he’s made so many new friends on Willow Island. When he’s not busy fixing his neighbours' stuff he enjoys snowmobiling, Sea Dooing, and astronomical photography. Jeff looks forward to making himself useful fixing more stuff on the A-Spire Board of Directors.
